Peter McCandless has been identified by investigators as the man struck attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Reston Parkway near Market Street earlier this week.
Police say that McCandless was walking in a crosswalk, but against the signal when he was struck by a 2017 Mercedes ML350 traveling through the area.
McCandless was rushed by first responders to an area hospital, where he died from. his injuries.
Alcohol is not a factor, though whether speed contributed to the fatal crash remains under investigation.
McCandless - also known as "Mr. Reston" was a regular walker in the area who was trying to stay in shape, according to NBC Washington. He was described as being "an outgoing and a public relations pro."
According to his LinkedIn page, McCandless spent 30 years promoting the new town of Reston, where he used his PR experience and expertise to market to help bring Reston to prominence when it was being founded in the 1960s.
